Extreme Mustang Makeover

June 16th, 2008 by Anessa

Yes, that’s right. I’m one of two women horse trainers in California and 200 in the US competing in the 2008 Extreme Mustang Makeover national competition.

It’s pretty crazy. Here’s the idea: take a completely strange, wild Mustang from the herd of the estimated 29,000 that roam 10 Western states and turn the animal into a well-trained, well-behaved horse in 100 days, a horse anyone could ride.

The competition is sponsored by the Mustang Heritage Foundation and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and with the finale in Ft. Worth Texas in September 2008.

Quick answers:

1. Yes, there will be a panel of judges. Take a look at the official website to see the judges.

2. The horses and trainers will be showcased in Ft. Worth Texas, September 18-21.

3. Yes, it really is random. It was by lottery, so I had no choice of animals. The one I picked out was given to a woman right in front of me.

4. Yes, the horse(s) will be up for adoption after the competition. Come buy mine!

5. Yes, I do think I will win, hands down <grin>.
